Marketing Hip Hop in Malaysia - Shows 101

For many professionals and amateurs alike what seems to be the ultimate thrill in fan interaction is to be onstage. Fact that is never to be forgotten in that may it be Rappers, Rockstars, Popstars or whatever else that exists in live entertainment no one on stage owns the crowd.

Take is as a simple “Customer is always right”. But to have a good set is not only to plan it well but is to make sure a few things that has to be in place. Veteran, award winning or new to the scenen or not each are responsible to ensure that everything is at it’s best quality.

So before showtime (in most cases the week before) be very certain that you have your tech riders and entertainment riders (this mostly applies to star rappers… i’ll write about this soon enough) checked and double checked. Depending on your set tech riders may vary. But here s a simple rundown of what is essential.

Mics - Be very specific on this. There is no excuse that any organizer could not obtain specific mics. The accepted standard vocal mic for live performences is at least a Shure SM58. First appeared in 1960’s, from then onwards I can say almost every single seasoned live performer has a least used it a couple of times in their career. So emcees always specify on these unless you already have a preferred mic of your own. If MJ used it so should you.

CDjs - There are mighty plenty out there. However it should be best to consult your Dj on what they are most comfortable with. The standard seems to be mostly Pioneers CDj. The least should be CDj 800~ the preferred choices would be CDj 1000.

Turntables -  This one is tough. Technics 1200Mk2 is a classic favourite (Its been used in clubs for the last 50 years~!). These may be very hard to come by so Vestax PDX2000 turntables are acceptable too. Anyway just to be sure ask your Dj for specifics.

Mixers - Ask your DJ about these too~ There are plenty of brands out there… however many Djs would almost definitely say Pioneer DJM (CDJs) or Vestax PMC series (mostly used by DJs for turntables) are the preferred choice. Depending on their playing style and skills the brand and model they use may vary.

Be at soundcheck and make sure all equipment requested are available. Test them out for a good ten minutes and be very-very kind to the sound engineer. A little bit of common ethics and respect can go long way. You may have the best skill son stage but if you are not good to the sound engineer you might sound as bad as the other kid cutting his first demo.
