This July, MIX fm’s very own Serena C turns 30 and instead of partying away like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, Serena hopes to give someone a chance a better life – beneficiary will be the Women’s Aid Organization (WAO) which runs a refuge for abused women and their children. This is a cause Serena C and her celebrity friends feel very strongly about.

But what I can really say about the iPod loosing to the old school Walkman is that the visually impaired can’t use the iPod while with the Walkman everyone could.

It is going stronger and stronger. Them Rouge Boys are the only one doing a Hip Hop gig that has a stable following and is now it it’s 7th installment. IF they reach the 10th then it should be a celebration~ Hint hint.

This piece of news came as a surprise this morning. A 50 year old living legend (was living) ended his reign as the King of Pop. Mind you that this title was bestowed upon him by Elizabeth Taylor a dear friend of his at the Grammies in the late 80’s.

I know many a Hip Hop head are saddened by his demise but I dare say he was living proof that legends were made to die. Just like BIG and Tupac and many other rappers. However Jacko was doing Pop and has always been doing Pop but the effect he had in Hip Hop is huge.

He is not really a great singer but as a song writer he is one of the best of our time. His songs reflected the times and tragedy and triumphs of human kind in his 50 years of life. Effectively shaping the entire MTV nation into what it is today.

He fused his performances with Choreography, Lights, Sounds, Pyrotechniques that I bet you no one else can replicate but would love to give it a shot. The man with the famous glittering gloved hand and white socks made all kids in the 80’s wanting to Moonwalk. But like all young stars he eventually faltered. Portrayed by the media as a freak as well as an icon. He was a star that never grew up.

But it made us dare to dream. It made us dare to say “I want to be like Micheal” to our parents and he made us to enjoy music the way no one else could. I dare say if there were no MJ there would be no MTV as we know it today. If there was no King of Pop, music would never see the daylight like how it is now.

For Hip Hop it might have inspired and it might have not. But I know many Malaysian Rapper who will not deny that MJ was indeed King. For now the throne is vacant, who would be the next seems to be an irrelevant question because there will only be ONE King of Pop. Now that one is almost as good as eternal.
